Pre-school and nine-year Compulsory School
Pre-school, family day-care homes and parent cooperatives
Pre-school activities are available in 10 day-care centres, 7 family day-care homes and 2 parent-co-operative day-care centres for about 450 children between the ages of 1 — 5 year. Children of unemployed parents and those with a parent at home for the care of a younger sibling are entitled to receive 15 hours of pre-school activity per week. All children aged 4 — 5 years are entitled to receive at least 525 hours of activity per year. We apply the maximum-fee principle. Nine-year Compulsory School
There are 7 compulsory schools in Torsby Municipality that offer pre-school classes, elementary school classes, day recreation centres, school meals, school health care and culture school. In Transtrand and Sörmark there are private “free schools".The compulsory school has a total of 1120 pupils. School of Culture
The School of Culture directs cultural projects in schools and provides instruction in playing musical instruments, choir/dance/drama, orchestra and drama. Instruction in these programs is offered in schools throughout the municipality and at the SchoolofCulture itself, located in the town of Torsby. 350 students participate in the activities of the Culture school.
