Leisure and Recreational Activities
Björnevi Sports Park
The sports-park consists of two 11-man football fields with grass and one with dirt. There are track and field facilities for shot put, hammer throw, discus, high jump, long jump, pole vault and a 400-meter all-weather track. The park is adjacent to Stjernehallen sports hall and Torsby Badet (indoor bath).
Torsby Sportcenter
The area is near central Torsby and the airport. Within the area are hiking trails, lighted and asphalted paths, biathlon and cross-country skiing trails, ski slopes, shooting ranges and a service facility with showers, sauna and snacks. The facility has an artificial-snow system to assure prolonged use of the ski tracks.
Torsby Sportcenter is a very fine area for recreation and training, within walking distance of the town centre. Sweden´s first ski tunnel, Fortum Ski Tunnel Torsby is located here and is visited by many Swedish and foreign elite skiers and biathlon athletes and sports tourists. Torsby Sportcenter destination is in the process of becoming a well-known international arena. In January 2010 the World Junior Biathlon Cup was held at Torsby Sportcenter.
Sysslebäck Bath & Leisure Centre
Sysslebäcks Bath & Leisure is a centre for people who seek an active lifestyle! We offer activities, lodging and leisure under the same roof. Our new GA-hall is a complete sports facility, also suitable for meetings, conferences, fairs and camps. Swim, sun-bathe and have fun in the indoor bath and work out in our new, well equipped gym. During the winter season there are great alpine and cross-country resorts nearby and during summer you can swim, fish, trek or go canoeing and rafting in the fantastic Klarälven valley.
TorsbyBadet — Torsby indoor bath
TorsbyBadet is a facility for all ages — for training, relaxing, play and adventure.
TorsbyBadet is much more than a pool — there are saunas, whirlpools, gyms, exercise rooms, a café, a conference room and something for all members of the family.
The pool area is a combination of adventure pool with waterslide, swimming pool and a pool for small children. Plants surround the pool and all areas are accessible for handicapped. The water temperature is 30 degrees and 34 degrees in the “training pool." Activities that are offered include: baby swim, adult and children´s swimming classes (ages 5 — 9), water exercises with pulse-training.
Winter-sport holidays
Each year the Recreation Committee arranges activities for young people during the winter sports holidays in cooperation with local clubs and associations. Youth recreation centre
These centres are located in three towns within the municipality: Torsby, Likenäs and Sysslebäck, and are mainly for persons who do not belong to clubs or other organisations. Stjärnan
Stjärnan is an all-activity house in central Torsby, run by an elected council. Their activities include a movie theatre, drama, live music, disco, exhibitions, youth projects, Internet, etc. Clubs, associations and businesses can rent their facilities. Torsbys´ Youth Council has their centre there. The new youth activity & leisure centre is also located here. Swimming school
Swimming classes are the municipality´s responsibility and are conducted during school hours with additional training available at other times. All classes are conducted in the indoor pools in Sysslebäck and TorsbyBadet. Fitness & health
The office of the municipality´s fitness consultant is at the Torsby Badet (swimming hall). Her task is to assure the health and fitness of residents through group activities - using the dynamics of the group´s energy - to help stimulate the individual´s better fitness by changing focus to a healthier lifestyle. Co-operation between the municipality´s departments and primary care and business, including lectures, leads to a public awareness of the concept of food, exercise and motivation.
